Framingham State University’s cheerleading team is a club sport, not a varsity team. It runs through the university’s Club Sports Program, which Framingham State Athletics lists alongside men’s lacrosse, men’s rugby and women’s rugby. The university doesn’t publish tryout dates, skill requirements or a team page for cheer, so the best first step is to contact the Club Sports office directly.
Who Can Join
According to Framingham State Athletics’ Club Sports page:
- Enrollment: you must be a matriculated, full-time undergraduate student.
- Paperwork: all pre-participation paperwork has to be completed before you can take part. You get it by emailing the Club Sports contact.
High school seniors aren’t eligible until they enroll, but you can email ahead to ask how new members join.
What the Team Does
Framingham State hasn’t posted a current description of the squad’s schedule or events. When the university advertised for a part-time head cheerleading coach in July 2022, the posting described the role as teaching cheerleading skills and strategies “during practice and competition,” including stunting and dance, with evening, weekend and holiday work as the season requires. Ask the Club Sports office how the current team practices and where it performs or competes.
What Framingham State Doesn’t Publish
There’s no public list of tryout dates, minimum tumbling or stunting skills, a GPA requirement beyond full-time enrollment, or team costs. Rather than guess, ask these questions when you email:
- When and how does the team select new members?
- Is there a tryout, or can any eligible student join?
- Which skills does the team expect, such as tumbling, stunting positions and jumps?
- What does the season look like, and are there dues or uniform costs?
Contact
The Club Sports page names Cully Curran as the contact for club sports questions and paperwork, at ccurran1@framingham.edu.
How to Prepare
Until you know the team’s expectations, work on the basics most college squads look for: sharp motions, clean jumps (toe touches, herkies and pikes), safe stunting technique in your position, and consistent tumbling at whatever level you have. If you’re new to college cheer, our beginner’s guide covers the fundamentals.
