Baylor University Cheerleading Tryout Guide

College Cheerleading Tryout Guides - CheerleadersLife

Baylor’s cheerleaders are officially called the Yell Leaders. The program has an All-Girl squad and a Co-Ed squad, and it sits within Baylor Spirit alongside the Songleaders dance team and the mascots. If you’re searching for “Baylor cheer tryouts,” the Yell Leaders are the team you’re looking for.

Timing note: Baylor hasn’t posted its cheer tryout packet for the next cycle yet. Its official tryout information page says “Cheer tryout information will be available soon.” What is published is the fall 2026 clinic schedule, and that’s where preparation should start.

Fall 2026 Cheer Clinic

Baylor lists this upcoming cheer clinic, open to students from 9th grade through college seniors:

DateClinicTimeLocation
Oct. 18, 2026Cheer Clinic (All Girl & Co-Ed)1 p.m. – 4 p.m.TBD

Registration details are on the Baylor Spirit events page.

All-Girl or Co-Ed: Which Squad?

  • All-Girl Yell Leaders: in college cheer, all-girl squads generally do group stunting, with bases, a back spot and a flyer.
  • Co-Ed Yell Leaders: co-ed squads generally do partner stunting, with one base and one flyer.

Your position shapes what you should train. Group stunting rewards versatility across base, back spot and flyer roles. Coed stunting puts more emphasis on partner technique — toss-to-extension timing for bases, and body position and balance for flyers.

Who Runs Baylor Spirit

According to Baylor’s 2026-27 coaching staff page:

  • Meagan Hulet — Director of Spirit & Traditions. She oversees the whole Baylor Spirit program (Meagan_Hulet@Baylor.edu).
  • Oliver Silva — Assistant Director of Spirit & Traditions. He primarily oversees the Co-Ed Yell Leaders.
  • Annie Carrell — Assistant Director of Spirit & Traditions and head coach of the Songleaders dance team.
  • Jesse Hulet — Spirit & Traditions Coordinator.

For cheer tryout questions, the Director of Spirit & Traditions is the most direct contact.

How to Prepare While You Wait for the Packet

  • Go to a fall clinic. It’s the only confirmed, dated opportunity to learn Baylor’s style from the coaching staff right now.
  • Build tumbling on a hard surface. Start with a clean back handspring and progress toward a standing tuck and running layouts. Baylor hasn’t published minimums for the next cycle, so aim above the basics.
  • Train for your squad. Group stunters should be comfortable in more than one position. Coed flyers and bases should drill partner stunts. See our guides on flying and basing.
  • Jumps are standard at college tryouts. See how to improve your jump height.
  • Check the tryout page regularly for the packet, which will set the actual requirements, dates and forms.
